Back

dir. Leonid Prudovsky, 2006, Israel , 56 min. Screening at 10th International Latino Film Festival - San Francisco Bay Area on 11/12/2006 @ 4:30 PM - @ Lark Theatre (Larkspur) Marcelo is an Argentine immigrant, soap opera actor and single father to a sharp-witted daughter named Lucy who struggles with the idea of not having a conventional family. Known for his roles in Spanish soap-operas in Argentina, Marcelo struggles to find work in Israeli television because both his Hebrew accent and Argentine looks are not kosher enough for Israeli soap operas. In a desperate attempt to find work, he approaches his Hebrew teacher, Anat, for help with the language. Anat is an Israeli whose mother Bruria is trying to find the perfect match for her. Packed with a unique array of characters and a roller-coaster of coincidences, Like a Fish out of Water, is a highly energetic romantic comedy that is both witty and humorous. Moreover, this film is a refreshing look at the complicated and eternal search for a mate and a study of the culture shock of a Jewish Latino in Israel.
